Pancake test coming my way.
I had my appointment with Dr. Besold today. Poor Colleen, who has been home sick all week, had to go with me. She was pretty good, considering it was a long wait for a little kid. She got to watch while I got a breast exam. I think that is good — cements the idea that exams are easy!
Dr. Besold found a lump and wants me to have a mammogram. Totally thought this might happen. I figured she was either going to say it was nothing, go home, or that she didn’t know what it was and needed a mammogram to figure it out. She found a lump really deep against my chest wall. I could NOT feel it. There was a sensitive area there that I felt before, but I couldn’t find the bump she found. At one point, she grabbed my fingers and SHOVED it into the spot. I felt it! There is no way I could have found this on my own. It hurt to press so hard!
I asked her what it was and she said she didn’t know! Oh well. Mammogram was scheduled for Monday, but when I got home, I realized I have meetings all day. I rescheduled for Wednesday.
I’ve been doing some research online and I think I have a fibroadenoma. It sure the heck sounds like it. Everything I read says pain is not usually associated with breast cancer, which is what I thought. And cancer is really unlikely in women my age. Fibroadenoma is common in women 30-35 (guilty). The bad part is they sometimes have to be removed. They are basically non-cancerous tumors, but sometimes grow fast.
I wish I could do the test Monday so I could stop worrying about whether the mammogram is going to hurt! But I already cancelled these meetings once when I was sick, so I need to get to it. I’m just so worried. I’ve heard mammograms aren’t fun for large-breasted women.
