Teresa Walker Gift Fund

There was some incredibly tragic news yesterday out of Terre Haute about someone we know. Teresa (Dwyer) Walker’s sons were kidnapped by their father; one was killed, one injured. We don’t know the father and we haven’t seen Teresa in many years, but this just isn’t something you want to hear about anyone — let alone a person you’ve known and liked. We’ve both been deeply affected by this news.

(If you need more information, you can read about it on CNN.com, IndyStar.com or the TribStar.com. I warn you: it is very sad.)

The Woods community also has been shaken up. You might remember I work for the Sisters of Providence, who sponsor Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. Theresa works for SMWC and both of us are graduates — she is just a year younger than me.

It is so difficult to hear this news and realize there isn’t a thing you can do. I’ve been so grateful in my times of sorrow and need to have a community of family and friends to support me. I do understand— and it is my sincere and fervent hope — that Teresa has the same. But, of course, you can never have too many people providing their love and hope.

A fund has been set up for her and her surviving son. It is through First Financial Bank in Terre Haute. The address for contributions is:

First Financial Bank
309 West National Avenue
West Terre Haute, IN 47885
Checks should be made payable to the “Teresa Walker Gift Fund.”
