Bird visitor

Hey … a tufted titmouse visited me this morning!

I don’t know why, but I find that hysterical.

I was sitting down to my computer and it had just started up. One of my online programs runs advertisements in a little corner of the window. I heard this chirpy sound and thought it was some ad trying to get my attention. I was annoyed – “Oh, so now they are putting annoying sounds to make me look!” Well, I wasn’t falling for it. I didn’t look. I figured it would stop. Then, I heard it again. I had to look to see if it was something I could shut off. I couldn’t see where it was coming from. It sounded so beautiful and so close, I didn’t even imagine it was coming from anywhere else BUT my computer. So, as I was looking for the source on my screen, I heard it again. I looked up and saw a guy looking much like this picture.

He (or she, apparently the boys and girls look a like) was collecting stuff from my window ledge for a nest.

Also, from what I can determine, these aren’t all that common in Indiana. Common throughout Michigan. I’m wondering if the extra cold weather forced him south.

Anyway, it was fun. He let me get a good, close look at him for a few minutes. His song was really pretty!

Having said all of this, I must admit I’m not actually a big fan of birds. I think they are kind of gross. I don’t mind watching them out my window, though, and this little guy was fun to watch.

  3. Cool! I love titmice. They’re so cute and cheerful. Up here in eastern Massachusetts, they’re extremely common. One of my best memories, in fact, is watching a fledging titmouse take his first flight. Watching him flap like crazy, cheeping away, like he was saying, “Look Mom, I’m FLYING!” And then it took him 20 minutes to get the courage/strength to fly back to nest, with his parents cheering him on.

    Glad he brightened your day!
